Christmas Book Ideas: Children

It’s the fourth day of Christmas book ideas, where I suggest books that might help you with ideas for yourself or for you to find a suitable book for someone else. Today it is… books for children. That is actually rather a vast category, so I am actually going to focus on a subset of that, which is books for nine year old boys (which may have something to do with my nephew being that age). However, many of these books are likely to have a wider appeal (maybe even to adults!).

A really good place to start is with a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Adventure and getting to choose lots of different paths – what more could you want! If you prefer to read your adventures through from beginning to end then the Percy Jackson books might be the thing.

If you’re looking for some humour then you could try the Tom Gates books, which are a bit like a British version of the Wimpy Kid books.  Or if the child in your life might be looking to trade in their parents, The Parent Agency could come in handy.

If you’re looking for something a bit more ‘educational’ then the Horrible Histories could be worth a go, as well as its less famous siblings Horrible Science and Horrible Geography.

Then, there’s also the old faithful – an annual. From Match of the Day to the Beano to Doctor Who.
